Waasa Township is holding a Cemetery Clean-up Day on Saturday, May 18 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Waasa Cemetery on Kaunonen Lake Road just off Hwy. 21. Volunteers, please bring work gloves and possibly a rake. Garbage bags will be provided.
Sisu Heritage, Inc. will host a concert by Shannon Gunderson on Sunday, May 19 at 3 p.m. in the historic Embarrass Apostolic Lutheran Church. Gunderson, of Virginia, is well known in the area for her performances. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for Sisu Heritage members, and children under 12 free. All proceeds go toward maintenance and preservation of this building, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. The church is located at 5103 Hwy 21, in Embarrass.
Flowers/vegetable plants from the band fundraiser are coming on Monday, May 20. They will be available for pickup on Tuesday, May 21 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. behind the school in the bus garage. If this does not work, please contact Christine Mackai at the school.
Northeast Range Elementary Spring Concert will be Thursday, May 23 at 1:30 p.m. This will be held in the school auditorium. The theme is “Summer” and all the students have been working hard to put this on. K-3 will be singing songs while grades 4-6 have a musical entitled “Summer Camp.” This is open to the public and all are welcome.
Veterans Rummage Sale is open for the summer Saturdays, May 18, 25 and June 1 from 8:30 a.m. to noon in the back of the Municipal Building at 71 South Drive. Come and take a look.
All are invited to attend a Baccalaureate Service Honoring the Class of 2024 on Wednesday, May 29 at 7 p.m. at the Northeast Range School Auditorium in Babbitt. Please help by attending and showing your prayers and support are with these graduates. There will be cake and a social time following the service in the school cafeteria. Babbitt EMS has partnered with Safe Kids Northeast Minnesota and Towards Zero Deaths Arrive Alive Coalition to provide free helmets in the area. They will be handing out up to 100 free helmets on Saturday, June 8, at the Ice Arena in Babbitt for Peter Mitchell Fun Days - Walleye Whamma. Partnering agencies will also be doing some safety demonstrations and ensuring the helmets are sized appropriately.
