Roose, Debeltz, Lahtonen win Ely city council seats

Roose, Debeltz, Lahtonen win Ely city council seats

There will be two new members on the Ely city council after Emily Roose (1,119), Jerome Debeltz (1,053) and John Lahtonen (969) won in the general election. Incumbent Paul Kess (906) fell 63 votes short and incumbent Ryan Callen chose not to run. Frederica Musgrave (571) finished a distant fifth.

Ely School Bond: With only Winton yet to count, Ely's school referendum passes with 1,586 yes votes to 1,359 no.  Not enough votes in Winton to make up the difference.  Winning school board seats were incumbents Tom Omerza and Hollee Coombe with Erin Moravitz winning a write-in campaign.

Resounding victory for State Rep. Roger Skraba of Ely.  After winning by 15 votes two years ago, his margin of victory now stands at 15 percent with a smattering of precincts to count.

U.S. Rep. Pete Stauber scores convincing re-election win tonight, with margin of victory now standing at about 16 percentage points over Jen Schultz.   Stauber won by a similar margin (15 percent) two years ago.

In Babbitt, Andrea Zupancich returns to the mayor's seat with both council incumbents, Glenn Anderson and Paul Hoheisel, losing handily. Zupancich beat Joe White 515-398.  Current mayor Duane Lossing (569) and John Fitzpatrick (310) won council seats. Taking third was Terry Switajewski (239), followed by Craig Warlof (213), Hoheisel (193) and Anderson (151).
