Babbitt Police Report

April 16-29, 2024

Officer assisted an Ely squad with a hold-up alarm at a local business. Alarm was determined to be accidental.

Officer stopped an adult female for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle. Verbal warning given.

Officers assisted in removing storm debris from the roadway.

Officer assisted Arrowhead Regional Corrections in making contact with a party that has been failing to attend check-ins. Adult male was advised that if he continues to miss check-ins a warrant will be issued for his arrest.

Officers performed an attempt to pick up on a wanted individual residing in town. Adult male was arrested for outstanding active warrants for felony 5th Degree Possession of Methamphetamine and Disorderly Conduct.

Officers responded for a report of a suspicious vehicle in the woods near town. Officers determined that it was an individual lawfully hunting turkeys.

Officers took a report of damage caused to the Frisbee Golf Course by an individual driving recklessly in a truck. The individual was identified and in lieu of charges, agreed to write an apology letter to those affected and spent time working on assisting with the repair.

Officer received a report of a suspicious person walking up driveways. It was determined to be a mailman.

Officer stopped a driver for expired registration and a cracked windshield. Adult male was cited for no proof of insurance.

Officer assisted a St. Louis County squad with a report of an elderly male having a mental health crisis. Individual was calmed and transported by the deputy to a local hospital for an evaluation.

Officer responded to a report of a disturbance at the local teen center caused by a juvenile refusing to leave. Juvenile was trespassed from the property.

Officer responded for a report of dine and dash customers at a local bar establishment. While the incident was being investigated, a suspect attempted to flee. Adult male charged with fleeing a police officer.

Officer assisted visiting circus employees with a report of runaway zebras. All zebras were rounded up and accounted for.

Officer took a report of a break-in at a vacant house in town. Incident remains under investigation.

Officer attempted to remove what appeared to be a dead deer in the middle of the highway and received quite the jump scare when the deer sprung back to life in his hands and eloped into the woods.

Officers took a report of shoplifting at a local business. Suspect was identified and in lieu of charges, returned to pay for the stolen merchandise.

Officers took multiple requests for extra patrol around local residences.

Officers took a report of a juvenile receiving a threatening social media message. Incident remains under investigation.

Officers assisted a DNR Officer with a report of potentially poached deer.

Officers assisted an Ely squad with an attempt to pick up a wanted individual residing in their town. Adult male was arrested for outstanding warrants for felony Violation of Probation and multiple counts of 3rd Degree Burglary.

Officer responded to a security alarm at a local business. Alarm was determined to be false.

Officer responded to a report of a tree down across the highway. Passing motorists were able to clear the road before St. Louis County Public Works arrived.

Officer responded for a report of a student at the local school having a possible mental health crisis. Student was referred to a social worker for counselling and assessment after it was determined there was no emergency.

Officer responded for a report of a burglary in progress at a vacant residence. Adult male was arrested for 3rd Degree Burglary.

Officers stopped a driver in order to assist a St. Louis County squad investigating a report of a hit mailbox. Adult male was cited during the stop for no proof of insurance. Information passed on to the deputy.

Officers stopped a driver for crossing the centerline and weaving within their lane. Adult male was arrested for 2nd Degree DWI and Driving After Revocation.

Officers performed multiple public assists.

Officers made twenty traffic stops. Warnings given for various traffic and equipment violations.

Officers assisted Babbitt Fire Department with five fire emergencies.

Officers assisted Babbitt EMS with three medical emergencies.
