Commencement at Minnesota North College, Vermilion will be held on Wednesday, May 8. The ceremony in Vermilion’s gymnasium begins at 7 p.m. A reception to honor graduates will be held in Vermilion’s cafeteria immediately following the ceremony. The keynote speaker will be Jessica Holmes, area wildlife manager and standby natural resources pilot, Minnesota DNR and VCC alumnus.
At the Ely Public Library on Wednesday, May 8 at 2 p.m. it’s Hey, It’s a Holiday: National Etiquette Week, a program for all ages. Come and mind your “Ps and Qs” as you learn about etiquette (and what “Ps and Qs are) with Jessie. You will need to pre-register for this event, so they can get the appropriate amount of supplies. Registration is limited to 25 spots. This program is sponsored by Friends of the Library.
The Ely Climate Group, CURE, and friends from the City of Morris, MN are holding some upcoming meetings on sustainability practices for small cities in Greater Minnesota. The first of these will be an informational meeting on May 9 at 4 p.m. in the Senior Center and is open to all. Morris has become a model community for local sustainability over the last 10 years or so. They are reaching out to other cities to provide ideas for good practices. They will review some of their efforts and some of the accomplishments made in Ely.
Are interested in weather? The City of Ely will be hosting a SKYWARN class May 14 at 6 p.m. This two-hour class is hosted by the National Weather Service and is free of charge. This class will be hosted at Ely City Hall (209 E. Chapman St.) in the council chambers.
Studio North presents its annual spring recital on Saturday, May 18 at 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. at the Washington Auditorium. Advance tickets available at Studio North, 1550 E. Washington St., Ely or at the door.
A Bake Sale, May 18 from 9 a.m.-noon has been scheduled for the Ely Senior Center Volunteer hunter safety instructor training class will be held on June 12 at 4:30 p.m. at the Babbitt Fire Hall. The contact person is regional training officer David Schottenbauer, [email protected]
