Ely will serve as one giant marketplace on Saturday, May 18.
That’s the date for the Ely Chamber’s 13th annual City-Wide Rummage Sale Business Crazy Day and Used Equipment and Watercraft Sale.
The one-day event is slated for next month with rummage sale hours from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. across town.
The day usually features many sales in homes and garages across town.
“Typically, we have about 30 folks or so signed up,” said Eva Sebesta, executive director of the Ely Chamber of Commerce.
The Chamber bills the event as a prime opportunity for people to clean up their basements, attics, sheds and garages and turn them into cash.
Meanwhile, usually about a dozen local businesses also participate in the event, with many offering in-store savings.
Also part of the event are sales of used equipment and watercraft.
“We usually have about a half dozen or so that do the used equipment and watercraft,” said Sebesta.
The Chamber is making its headquarters property at 1600 East Sheridan Street available to those who might want to set-up shop there and conduct their sales, “as long as they have something like a festival tent or something like that we are fine with people setting up there,” said Sebesta.
Residents and businesses that would like to participate in the event can stop by the Chamber to register, or they may do so at www.ely.org/citywide.
Rummage sale registration is $10 and includes a listing on the map along with media advertising, and the Chamber has a limited number of signs to direct people to rummage sales locations.
On May 14, a map will be unveiled listing the venues and businesses that are participating. It will be available at the Chamber as well as online at www. ely.org/citywide.
The event has proven to be popular in its brief history, attracting area residents out for bargains as well as others coming from other communities.
