Get ready to check out the 2024 solar eclipse at the Ely Public Library with hopes for a cloudless day since it will be another 20 years before a solar eclipse passes over the U.S. again. The eclipse will be taking place from about 1 to 3 p.m. in the Ely area with a peak at 2:06 pm on Monday, April 8. During this time, the library will also have a live feed running in the meeting room with coverage from areas within the path of totality. Plus, there’ll be some fun activities for all ages to try related to the eclipse. The library also has a limited number of viewing glasses available for distribution. Maximum of 2 per person while supplies last.

At the Ely Public Library on Monday, April 8 at 3 pm – Friends of the Library Book Club – for adults. Title for discussion will be Invisible Child by Andrea Elliott. You do not need to be a member of Friends of the Library to attend.

Hey, It’s a Holiday: National Submarine Day. Take a look at sailing under the water with Jessie on National Submarine Day. Find out more about how submarines work and do some fun projects. You will need to register in advance. This program is sponsored by Friends of the Library.

The Ely Weavers and Fiber Arts Group will meet on Monday, April 8 at the Grand Ely at 11:30 a.m. They will have a guest to show her baskets. Join us.

The 2024 Sigurd Olson lecture will be held on Tuesday, April 9, 5:30 p.m. at the MN North College Vermilion Campus theater. The topic is wild California and the Antiquities Act. The lecture is free and open to the public.

The next Braver Angels meeting will take place on Thursday, April 11 from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Senior Center.

The annual Ely Community Resource Art Auction will be held on April 20 starting at 5 p.m. at Ely’s Historic State Theater. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the ECR office, from board members or at the door.
