Senior hockey took on a whole new meaning last weekend in Babbitt.
Four teams, consisting of players age 60 to 84, took part in the Northwoods 60+ Hockey Tournament at Babbitt’s Ron Castellano Arena.
The two-day event brought 45 players in all, not only from Minnesota but from Wisconsin, North Dakota and Canada as well for a full weekend of hockey.
Each team played three games, and took part in a pizza social Saturday evening at The Hideaway.
Many players have been coming to tournaments hosted by the Babbitt Blue Line for more than 10 years.
These tournaments are quite popular as the players enjoy the small town atmosphere and camaraderie.
Organizers extended a special thanks to scorekeepers Brad Sader and Rick Monte for all their time and dedication over the years, along with referees Alex Merriman, Van Conrad, Adam Klimek, Willy Miller, and the Babbitt Figure Skating Club for providing concessions.
The next tournament in Babbitt is the End of the Road 50+ tournament, which takes place Jan. 18-19.
