Nighthawks beat Nashwauk-Keewatin at home

The Northeast Range girls volleyball team hosted three games in a row and were able to pick up a win on Tuesday.

Hosting Nashwauk-Keewatin, the Nighthawks dropped the first set 20-25 and then came back to win 25-23, 25-23 and 25-17.

Northeast Range filled up the stat sheet with eight kills from Kaydence Hancock, four ace serves from Else Bee to go along with 18 kills and 15 digs. Peyson Roseth tallied four kills, 19 digs and four ace serves. Maizy Sundblad recorded nine kills and 10 digs. Danica Sundblad was credited with 32 digs, 17-for-17 serving plus one ace. Chloe Jeneksela had 16 digs and two ace serves.

“It was a fight tonight for each game. We lost to this team In 3 at our recent tournament so it felt good to play our game and beat them. I always tell the team that when you lose and them come back and win the next three, that’s accomplishment,” said Head Coach Misty Roseth. “I’m so proud of this team for coming back together each set and sticking it out for the win!”

On Monday, Sept. 30 the Nighthawks fell to Ely 25-20, 25-7 and 25-11.

“What a fun first set! There were times we were in the lead, playing defense, offense and had great serve receives!” said coach Misty Roseth.

“Set two they picked up their offense and we struggled with our serve receive. Always so fun playing girls we know and so close to home.”

On the night Hancock had six kills, Bee had two kills and four digs, Peyson Roseth had two kills and nine digs, Maizy Sundblad had two kills and digs, Danica Sundblad had 12 digs and Jeneksela had five digs.

On Thursday, Sept. 26 the girls fell to North Woods in three, 25-14, 25-17 and 25-18.

“Six girls had 100% serving tonight! Which helped close the gap as North Woods did not have a great serving game. They are one of the better teams this year,” said coach Roseth.

For the Nighthawks, Hancock had nine kills, Bee had five kills and nine digs, Peyson Roseth had four kills, Ezra Chamberlin had two kills.

“Our offense was off and their offense was on!” said coach Roseth.

Danica Sundblad and Jeneksela each had 10 digs.
