It’s been six weeks since heavy rains led to significant flooding in parts of St. Louis County. In that time, St. Louis County assessors have visited 716 private properties where damage had been reported and inspected a total of 1,973 structures.
Of the properties inspected, a total of 374 structures on 332 separate parcels sustained a level of damage that qualified for property tax relief. The estimated amount of structure damage to private property owners totals $11,846,400.
W ith t heir w ork o n t he d amage assessment process winding down, the Assessors Department has some important reminders for citizens who sustained damage resulting from the June flooding. Anyone who has not yet reported damage, must contact the Assessors Department by Friday, Aug. 2, in order for it to be inspected. The Assessors Department can be reached at 218-726-2304 Additionally, for property owners who were not home when an assessor visited, if the assessor determined that damage occurred that results in property tax relief, the county is mailing a form known as the Local Option Disaster Abatements and Credits (CR-LODA). This form must be completed and returned to the County Assessor by August 30. If property owners received this form from another source or online, they need to contact the County Assessor to ensure they have the correct form with their property information pre-printed on it, including the parcel number in red font on the right side of the form.
“The June flood was devastating for so many families and business owners, and we want to make sure people receive any property tax relief for which they are eligible,” said Mary Garness, St. Louis County Director of Public Records and Property Valuation. “Our staff has worked hard to visit each property and meet with people and help them through this process.”
