Meet a live Peregrine Falcon at the Bear Head State Park on Sunday, July 14 from 10 a.m. to noon. Jackie Fallon, VP of Field Operations and MN State Coordinator for the Midwest Peregrine Society, will help visitors understand the past, present, and future of peregrine falcons in Minnesota and the region. Come and discover the wonder of raptors, why they are important and what you can do to help them survive.

At the Ely Public Library on Tuesday, July 16 at 11 a.m. it’s Get Crafty: Diamond Dots for ages 8 and older (yes, adults too). Using a diamond dot kit, come learn how to do this fun activity. All materials are supplied. You will need to pre-register so there are enough supplies for everyone. This program is sponsored by Friends of the Library.

On July 16 at 6 p.m. Amanda Sachs and Elena Hollenhorst will present Searching for Giants, a contemporary dance duet. This free performance is part of the Northern Lakes Arts Association’s Arts in the Park at Whiteside Park in Ely. This work premiered at MN Orchestra’s International Day of Music and they have since performed it at Dances at the Lake Festival and the Tek Box in Minneapolis. The following evening July 17 from 6-8 p.m., they will be teaching a dance workshop which will inform participants about the creative process, and incorporate improv as well as phrase work. Participants of all ability levels ages 12+ are welcome, with a suggested donation of $10. Amanda Sachs and Elena Hollenhorst are fiscal year 2024 recipients of a Creative Individuals grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant form the Minnesota Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund. The performance is sponsored by Northern Lakes Arts Association and Save the Boundary Waters.

At the Ely Public Library on Wednesday, July 17 at 11 a.m. there will be a Kids for Kids Concert for all ages. Come hear a small group performance of some of the students that are taking part in this year’s Northern Lights Music Festival. This program is presented in cooperation with the Northern Lights Music Festival.

The July meeting of Ely P.E.O. Chapter FD will be held on Thursday, July 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church. Visiting members are welcome.

At the Ely Public Library on Friday, July 19 at 1 p.m. there will be board games for all ages. Bring a game you love to play to share with someone new or try something different with games that the library provides.

Searching for Giants will be performed at Tofte Lake Center on Friday, July 19 at 7 p.m. with a suggested donation of $10 The St. Louis County Board of Commissioners will conduct a public hearing beginning at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 23, at the Ely City Hall to consider enacting a county- wide moratorium prohibiting registrations for cannabis businesses through December 31.

The Ely-Winton Historical Society presents a History Night event on Wednesday, July 24. The presenter will be Lee Johnson of the Forest Service who will speak on “The Fur Trade. The events starts at 6 p.m.

Join the Eagles Nest Fire/EMS Auxiliary on Thursday, July 25 from 6-8 p.m. for an ice cream social. Held at the Eagles Nest Town Hall (1552 Bear Head State Park Rd), the Auxiliary is raising funds for a wildland fire truck. Adults $5/kids $3.

The Blueberry Bazaar will be held July 26 and 27 at the air conditioned Ely Senior Center. There will be 20 vendors plus a bake sale and free parking.

The Ely Area Community Foundation (EACF) will host an open house for its new community building, The Hub located at 760 Miners Drive East in Ely, on July 31, beginning at 4 p.m. There will be music, food trucks, and a formal ribbon cutting at 5:15 p.m.

Ely’s Historic State Theater will be hosting open mic nights Tuesdays through Aug. 27 in the State Theater lounge, hosted by Christopher David Hanson from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.

Every Tuesday at 9 a.m. there is a group that helps take care of the flower gardens at Whiteside Park. Come meet fellow gardeners and exchange plants.
