Drowning reported on White Iron Lake

A Missouri man apparently drowned in White Iron Lake on Sunday.

According to Northern News Now, Duane Kreuger, 54, of St. Louis, MO was found floating in the water around 2 p.m.

Kreuger was a guest at White Iron Beach Resort and had been a customer for 15 years, according to Kerry Davis.

“He was an experienced boater and an experienced fisherman. He had used that watercraft many years in a row so he was very familiar with it,” said Davis.

The boat had no damage and was found against the shore with the motor off and the trolling motor in the water.

“There was zero damage to the boat and the trolling motor didn’t have a nick in it,” said Davis.

Kreuger was in a party of three and was fishing alone when the incident occurred. “They are big bass fisherman, all catch and release and it was common for them to be out on the water all day,” said Davis.

Kreuger was not wearing a life jacket at the time, although Davis said each boat has life jackets in it.

According to Northern News Now, in the initial investigation authorities determined it was an accidental drowning.

“For all the thousands of people who go through our properties incidents like this happen once every 10 years,” said Davis. “Of course, we would like that to be zero.”
