How rain evades the Babbitt Couples golfers on Sunday evening is a mystery - a wonderful mystery. We had rain prior and after golf! A beautiful summer night of golf was again enjoyed.
The hosts for the evening were the Linds and Youngmans. They introduced a twist to the scramble. The women teed off on four odd holes, and the men then played the second shot from that position and then all four scrambled the rest of the hole and vice versa with the men teeing off on even holes. The ninth hole was a four person scramble. The winners loved the game while the rest thought they would rather stick to a straight scramble. This was the first time no one shot even par or under.
The team of Becky Greenwaldt, Ron Moen/ Joni and Lee Serena shot a one-over 36 to take first place. While they had three nice birdies, they also had four bogies. Hole #9 was dubbed the Becky and Ron Hole. Ron put a beautiful drive out there and Becky chipped it close to the pin and then sank the birdie putt. For being a first year golfer, she has been making some key shots throughout the summer. Two teams tied for second with 38s.
Winning second place by shooting par on the second tie breaker hole was the team of Brenda and Larry Lind/Joanie and Dave Youngman. For their team, even though they double bogeyed #3, Brenda kept them mostly in pars with her fantastic approach shots, while Dave was finally happy to contribute a long drive and accurate chip onto #9.
Coming in at third place was the team of Minette and Jim Richards/ Pam and Doug Maki who managed to get the only other birdie by the second, third and fourth place teams.
Coming in fourth place was the team of Diane and Todd Ahlquist/ Sandy and Merle Vandervest with a 42. Diane said their team should win with the best poker hand - almost all fives.
The couples decided to have dinner at the clubhouse after golf this Sunday, Aug. 18. Everyone will bring something to grill and a dish to pass. All couples are invited to join in the fun of scramble golf and socializing after. Sign up at the clubhouse by 3 p.m. on the 18th. Shotgun start at 4 p.m. Hosting will be the Ahlquists and Richards.
