Wayne LaVerne Murphy, age 91, passed away with his loving family by his side on April 14th, 2021 at the Ely Bloomenson Community Hospital in Ely, MN.
Wayne was born on November 6th, 1929 in Christie, Wisconsin to Fred and Leota (Howard) Murphy. Wayne proudly served his country during the Korean War in the Army Airborne Division as a paratrooper. He later served many years in the Army Reserves. Wayne married the love of his life, best friend and soulmate, Augusta Meta Cornwell, on May 21st, 1955.
He enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He was always happy when he had a fishing pole or a chainsaw in his hands. He taught his children and grandchildren to enjoy the simple things, and to work hard for the privilege to enjoy them. He was a loving and caring person, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was always thinking of others first, and always willing to lend a helping hand. To know him was to love him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
Wayne is survived by his children: LaVerne Murphy (Jere), Marcella Hart (Alan) and JoLynn Arntz (Jeffrey). His grandchildren: Eric Hart (Janelle), Melissa Hart (Dan), Amber Bose (Adam), Autumn Boedeker (Patrick), Janae Murphy and Dawson Murphy. His great grandchildren: Gunnar Hart, Sabrah Hart, Talan Hart, Laydan Hart, Ryker Hart, Ari Hart and Emilia Boedeker. His sister Betty Johnston (Lavon). His in-laws: Caroline Murphy, Vera Kuehl, Vernon Cornwell (Avis), Leland Cornwell (Ruth), Gladys Mabie, Herbert Cornwell (Deb), Lois Hartshorn, Phyllis Mabie and Dolores Cornwell. Numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Wayne was preceded in death by his beloved wife and best friend, Augusta Meta Murphy. His parents: Fred and Leota Murphy. His brothers: Robert Murphy and Floyd Murphy.
A private graveside service, honoring both Wayne and Meta, will be held. Family arrangements have been entrusted to Kerntz Funeral Home of Ely.
