The Vermilion Ironhawks gave up points in bunches in their home finale.

Visiting Gogebic scored 51 second-half points on the way to a 95-46 community college women’s basketball victory.

The loss was the second straight for Vermilion, which fell to 3-16 heading into Thursday night’s matchup at Mesabi.

Despite their record, a win over Mesabi would put Vermilion into a one-game playoff for a postseason berth.

Vermilion’s struggles continued against Gogebic, which enjoyed a massive edge (46-18) on the boards in its easy win.

Kate Borseth (27 points) and Kylee Hewitt (23) combined for 50 points for the winners and teammate Hanna Hoskin contributed 11 points.

Vermilion’s Sophia Moron poured in a team-high 21 points and sank four three-point baskets in the matchup.

The Ironhawks’ Destiny Gonzalez added 10 points and Ce Ce Bradford finished with five.

• Central Lakes outscored the visiting Ironhawks in all four quarters on the way to a 66-45 Northern Division victory on Feb. 16.

Moron dialed long distance five times while leading Vermilion with 21 points, and Bradford recorded a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds.
