School board forum Tuesday

Ely’s school board candidates are set to take part in a public forum this week.
The event is set for Tuesday, from 7 to 9 p.m., in the theater at Vermilion Community College.
Eight of the nine candidates in the Nov. 8 election for four school board seats are set to participate.
Longtime board chairman Ray Marsnik is squaring off against Anthony Bermel for a two-year position on the board, and both are slated to take part in the forum.
The forum will also include six of the seven participants in a contest for three four-year terms on the board, including incumbents Tony Colarich, Chad Davis and Rochelle Sjoberg, and challengers Jeremy Engen, Mike Scherbing and Jennifer Westlund.
The seventh candidate, Claire High, is not able to attend.
The event is hosted by the Ely Branch of the American Association of University Women along with the Ely Rotary Club.
In addition to the live forum, arrangements will be made for viewing after the event. More information will be available soon.
Organizers are inviting the public to submit questions for the event.

Absentee voting has started and will conclude Nov. 7, and area polling places will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on election day, Nov. 8,
Anyone seeking an absentee ballot should go to https://mnvotes.gov. Absentee ballots must be received by 8 p.m. on election day.
