Mathew was born on May 6, 1972 in Ely, MN. He attended school in Ely and graduated from Ely Memorial High School in 1990. He went to college at the University of Minnesota and graduated with a degree in medicine./ Mathew married Sara Kay Engebretson on September 20, 2003 and they lived in Woodbury, MN with their children.

Mathew worked as a hospitalist for M Health Fairview operating out of Woodwinds Hospital in Woodbury.

He and his wife had three children, Gianni, Sophia and Marco.

Mathew enjoyed outdoor activities, music and spending time with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents Seraphine and Olga (Rukavina) Rolando; and Edmond and Edna (Delzer) Murto.

Mathew is survived by his wife Sara, children Gianni, Sophia and Marco, parents Seraphine and Patricia (Murto) Rolando of Ely, sister Amanda (Rolando) Barnstorf and her husband Matthew of Duluth, MN; aunt Cecilia Rolando of Ely and numerous cousins and relatives.

Services will be held April 30 at 2 p.m. at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Afton, MN.
