JOSEPH J. PLUTH
He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Bemidji State University, then furthered his education and received his Doctorate in Physical Chemistry from the University of Washington. Joseph retired from the University of Chicago as a research scientist after 40 plus years of dedicated service.
He was a jack-of-alltrades, finishing every project around his home, from reroofing the entire house to building out his basement. He would not hire anyone to do work because he could do it all. Joseph loved gardening and had a huge garden behind his house that he took great pride in. Woodworking and classical music were other passions of his, and his favorite rock band was Creedence Clearwater Revival. He was also a lifelong outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed camping, hiking, fishing, skiing, and just generally spending time in the outdoors.
Joseph is survived by his daughter, Sara (Mark) Calhoun; two sons, Matt (Bre) Pluth, and David (Alicia) Pluth; three grandchildren, Hannah Pluth and Veronica and Will Calhoun; and brother, Thomas (Donna) Pluth. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 49 years, Lucy Juliana (nee Corsetti) in November of 2022; his parents; and sister, Janet (Larry) Yadlosky.
