1.0 The regular meeting of the School Board of Independent School District No. 696 was called to order in the Board Meeting Room at 6:00 p.m. by Chair Marsnik.
2.0 On roll call the following directors were present: Westlund, Coombe, Colarich, Omerza, Sjoberg, Marsnik. Absent: None. Also in attendance: Anne Oelke, Superintendent/PreK-5 Principal; Jeff Carey, 6-12 Principal; Tim Leeson, Facilities and Transportation Director; Tom Coombe, The Ely Echo; Catie Clark, Timberjay.

7.b.8. Approved request from Max Gantt, K-12 Physical Education/Health teacher, to extend parental leave from November 6, 2023 - November 10, 2023 under the Family Medical Leave Act.
7.b.9 Approved request from Kelly Chick, K-12 Art Teacher, for medical leave of absence from December 5, 2023 through January 1, 2024 under the Family Medical Leave Act.
7.b.10. Accepted the resignation of Catherine Mindel from her Paraprofessional position (6.5 hours/day, 5 days/week, student contact days) effective September 26, 2023.
7.b.11. Pulled for Separate vote Renew the following assistant coaches for the 2023-2024 school year as recommended by Tom Coombe, Athletic Director per the current master agreement between ISD No. 696 and the Ely Education Association and school board policy: Tim Omerza, assistant boys basketball coach; Tom Omerza, assistant girls basketball coach; Duane Lossing, assistant hockey coach; Tyler Fish, assistant boys and girls Nordic skiing coach.
7.b.12. Approved the following assistant coaches for the 2023-2024 school year as recommended by Tom Coombe, Athletic Director per the current master agreement between ISD No. 696 and the Ely Education Association and school board policy: Pat Vanderbeek, Jake Vanderbeek, junior high boys basketball coaches (stipend to be paid by Ely Hoop Club); Troy Oelke, junior high girls basketball coach (stipend to be paid by Ely Hoop Club); Nate LaFond and Megan Theile, junior high skiing coaches (stipend to be paid by Nordic Wolves Booster Club); Paula Anderson and Carl Skustad, volunteer assistant boys and girls Nordic skiing coaches; Emmett Penke, Jen Zgonc, Erin Lowe, volunteer assistant girls basketball coaches; Heather Hohenstein, Sarah Sponholz, Liz Anderson, Karl Kubiak, Chris Ellerbroek, Beth Ohlhauser, volunteer assistant junior high skiing coaches.

9.c. Moved by Westlund, seconded by Omerza, to accept bid from Blue Cross Blue Shield for the district’s health insurance beginning 2024 pending bargaining units approval. Motion carried. (Vote: 6, 0)
9.d. Moved by Omerza, seconded by, Colarich to approve Resolution of Governing Board Supporting Form A Application to Minnesota State High School League Foundation. Motion carried. (Vote: 6, 0)

ELY SHORT TERM RENTAL NOTICE
The Ely City Council is considering to reduce the number of Short Term Rental Licenses allowed in R-1, R-2, RT, and SMU. The current number of Short Term Rentals allowed is 35, and the City of Ely has 21 Short Term Rental Licenses Issued. The Ely City Council is looking at reducing the number of Short Term Rentals allowed to 25 in R-1, R-2, RT, and SMU.
As a reminder; those properties who are found to be renting without the necessary city and state documentation will be subject to a $700.00 fine per occurrence.
