Koivisto 22nd at state golf

Abby Koivisto made a big climb in her return to the state golf meet.

After taking 74th a year ago, the Northeast Range junior finished in a tie for 22nd at the State Class A girls event, which wound up Wednesday at Becker.

Koivisto recorded a 91 over 18 holes Wednesday, which followed a 94 the day before for a 36-hole score of 185.

That put her in 22nd, tied with fellow Section 7A contender Tori Olson of North Woods, in a field of 86 golfers.

Koivisto was third among 7A golfers on the opening day and she and Olson tied for second among the section representatives after Wednesday’s action at the Pebble Creek Course.

Legacy Christian’s Racquelle Nelson won the tournament with a 79 the first day and an 82 the second for an overall score of 181.
