Hook and Bullet Club

Being a night owl can be a curse and a blessing. It’s 12:41 a.m. and I’ve decided to write a column for the first time in quite awhile.
I’ve got the usual excuses with number one being time. It seems the older we get the faster Father Time moves. Which reminds me of a substitute teacher we had in grade school. But that’s a story for another…time.
There were numerous times I wanted to write and didn’t. Like when Mary and I went to Colorado and spent a mini-vacation with Ely’s former eye doctors, Mike and Gail Saxerud.
We used a Whiskey Myers concert at Red Rocks as the trigger to make the trip happen, but it was the time in the Rockies with the best tour guides we could ask for that keep us thinking about when we could go back.
While there we rented a four-seater side by side and rode it up the mountain until the snow stopped us right near the peak. The views were spectacular there. The Prospector ATV Trails are the best in Minnesota, but we don’t have the sights found in Colorado. Thanks Mike and Gail, for sharing your lives with us this summer.
We spent most of the summer at 2647 Van Vac Road, cleaning out several lifetimes worth of memories so we could put my mother’s house up for sale. If you’re interested, check it out and set up a time to see it. We think it’s a great home in the woods.
Our other home in the woods is Camp Cholesterol and we’ve been able to spend some time out there this fall. But instead of trailering our ATV there, we leave from town.
This is a whole new world for us to enjoy. And by the looks of the number of trailers in town with ATVs on them, there’s a lot of folks who enjoy our trails as much as we do.
We got back into snowmobiling last winter to keep from being cooped up in the house all winter. Riding trails in the winter and the summer is now something we do regularly.
In the end it call comes down to time. There’s family and work and life and meetings and so much to capture our attention.
But the time we spend exploring, whether in Colorado or Minnesota, that is some of the best times we have had in the great outdoors.
