Northeast Range/Ely has to travel in order to challenge for state tournament berths.
The Section 7A competition is set for Tuesday and Wednesday at McGregor, and both the girls and boys teams will take part.
NRE’s Abby Koivisto has qualified for state the last two seasons as an individual, but the girls as a team could be a contender this week.
The NRE girls were second only to Class AA power Rock Ridge at the May 17 East Range Conference meet at the Vermilion Fairways.
Kovisto was seventh overall with a nine-hole score of 50, while Cylvia DeBeltz had second-best honors on the team, taking 10th with a 54.
She was followed by Maizy Sundblad (12th, 56) and teammates Carena DeBeltz (16th, 61), Ruby Milton (18th, 63), Ezra Chamberlin (20th, 64) and Danica Sundblad (22nd, 66).
In boys action, Tommy Homer carded an 18-hole 81 to pace NRE at a May 17 meet hosted by Rock Ridge.
The rest of the NRE linksters lagged behind with Wes Sandy recording a 81 to take 57th, and Lewis Powell scoring 94 to place 62nd. Rounding out the team was Ely senior Robert Towley, who finished 65th at 95.
Both NRE teams were set to take part in the East Range Conference Championships after deadline on Thursday. That meet served as the regular season finale.
