Hannah Simchak and Josie Anderson were two key contributors this spring for the Vermilion softball team, and those efforts did not go unnoticed.
Both earned spots on the MCAC All-Northern Division Team, which was announced last week.
Simchak, a first-year player from Hurley, Wisc., gained a spot on the Northern Division First Team while Anderson, a Hermantown native, got second team honors.
Both had good seasons at the plate for Vermilion, which struggled through a 2-23 season Simchak, who won player of the week honors at one point during the campaign, hit .379 for the year with a team-best .621 slugging percentage.
While anchoring the infield at first base, Simchak collected 25 hits including four home runs and 25 runs batted in, all team-highs.
Anderson contributed both at the plate and in the pitchers’ circle.
The sophomore led the Ironhawks with a .385 batting average, including four doubles and 14 RBI.
Anderson also did the bulk of the pitching work for Vermilion, logging 80 innings and recording 41 strikeouts and yielding 117 earned runs.
When not in the pitching circle, Anderson also worked behind the plate as Vermilion’s catcher.
