Studio North presents its annual spring recital on Saturday, May 18 at 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. at the Washington Auditorium. Advance tickets available at Studio North, 1550 E. Washington St., Ely or at the door.

The annual Empower Fundraiser Garage Sale will be held on Saturday, May 18 from 8 a.m.- until sold out at 144 East White St. All proceeds go to Ely senior girls scholarships. Kitchen and home goods, linens, crafts, furniture, jewelry, camping and sporting goods, tools, small electronics, garden items, pet items and much more. Something for everyone. Bake table and free coffee.

A Bake Sale, May 18 from 9 a.m.-noon has been scheduled for the Ely Senior Center.

On Sunday, May 19 at 4 p.m. at the Ely Folk School the

Ely Climate Group and CURE will host a discussion led by Troy Goodnough the Sustainability Director at UMN-Morris. Goodnough will describe how Morris started making changes in its community and what it has accomplished in the last 10 years. Morris and Ely are similar in size. Could Ely take advantage of some of these ideas? Open to everyone, even if you missed the first meeting.

At the Ely Public Library on Thursday, May 22 at 2 p.m. there will be a program, Library Scientists: Pollution for grades 4-6. Do you know a kid who loves to figure out how things work? This program is for them. Participants will learn the basics of a science, technology, engineering, or math principle and then do a hands on project to apply what they’ve learned. The topic for this session is pollution. You will need to pre-register for this event, so there can be the appropriate amount of supplies. Registration is limited to 25 spots. This program is sponsored by Friends of the Library.

The next gathering of the Ely chapter of Braver Angels will take place on Thursday, May 23 at 6:30 p.m. at the Senior Center.
