Big weekend at state for Ely’s archery teams

As reported last week, two Ely archers qualified individually and both the elementary and middle school teams have also qualified to take part in a national archery tournament.

Those berths were earned March 30 at the state competition at Rochester.

More details have since been released about the state tournament, where Ely recorded three perfect 50s, - two by Sabarah Hart (Bullseye and 3D) and one by Teddy Johnson (3D).

Ely’s Hayden Weidemann took fifth with a 281 in the middle school division earning a 3D state medal and a berth in nationals, set for May 9-11 in Kentucky.

Payson Kundinger was 10th among middle school girls with a 269, also qualifying for nationals.

Both the elementary and our middle school teams have also qualified to participate at the National 3D tournament and will begin preparations, after eighth and seventh-place state finishes, respectively.

At state, Ely took part in an event that featured archers from 73 schools with over 1,900 registered participants.

Scoring Bullseye top-30 finishers at state were:

• Cylvia DeBeltz – 29th Place – High School Girls – 280;

• Laydan Hart – 19th Place – Middle School Boys – 273;

• Talan Hart – 22nd Place – Middle School Boys – 273;

• Weidemann – 24th Place – Middle School Boys – 272 Ely Bullseye personal bests were recorded by Garen Weisinger, Hunter Kosinski, Liam Kurnava and Owen Kurnava, Ely’s 3D top-30 finishers were:

• Sabrah Hart – 15th Place – High School Girls – 280;

• Laydan Hart – 18th Place – Middle School Boys – 271;

• Aspen MacCoy – 13th Place – Elementary Girls – 235;

• Wyatt Carlson – 23rd Place – Elementary Boys – 234;

• Owen Kurnava – 26th Place – Elementary Boys – 232.

The 3D personal bests went to Weidemann and Kundinger.

Ely’s tournament sponsors were Weisinger Construction and Superior Fuel.
