An Elyite died in the hospital days after suffering a medical emergency while on vacation in Mexico.
On March 23, Dr. Mathew Rolando was hospitalized after suffering the emergency while scuba diving. He was on vacation with family and friends in Cabo San Lucas at the time.
According to a GoFund-Me set up to support Rolando’s family, he remained in a medically induced coma until he was able to be taken to hospital in San Diego.
A March 29 update shared on the fundraiser stated that Rolando had died in the hospital, with several of his organs set to be donated after he was declared brain dead.
“Please know how much we have felt your love and compassion for Mat and his family from many miles away,” the update read.
Rolando is listed as being a family physician for M Health Fairview, operating out of Woodwinds Hospital in Woodbury.
Final internment arrangements are pending.
