Ely’s Faltesek scores big indoors for Concordia track team

After a stellar indoor season, it’s on to the outdoors for former Ely Timberwolf Emmett Faltesek.

The junior at Concordia- St. Paul placed in the top-six in two events at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Indoor Championships last month.

Faltesek was fourth in the mile run in 4:15.20 and placed sixth in the 800 meter run in 1:58.29, as the NCAA Division II Conference held its indoor championships at Mankato.

At a February meet at the University of Minnesota, Faltesek hit an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the mile while winning the event in 4:12.60.

The same month, Faltesek placed first in the 800 run at a meet in Mankato with a time of 1:55.49.

Faltesek helped the CSP men to a sixth-place finish at the conference indoor meet, and the Golden Bears were slated to open the outdoor season this weekend at an event at Emporia, Kan.

A 2021 Ely graduate, Faltesek is a dual sport athlete at the Twin Cities school.

He was one of several Golden Bears men’s cross country team members to complete in the NCAA Central Regionals, held last November at Joplin, Missouri. He also took 51st in the NSIC meet.

As a Timberwolf, Faltesek was a state-meet qualifier in cross country, and during his senior year he went to state in track and finished fourth in Class A in the 800 run.

Faltesek was also a multiyear starter on Ely’s boys basketball team.

REACHING UP and going for the ball was Ely’s Hannah Penke (13), one of three Wolves seniors who played in a regional all-star game at Virginia Wednesday. Penke, Sarah Visser and Grace LaTourell represented the Wolves.
