Two Ely archers qualified individually, and both the elementary and middle school teams have also qualified to take part in a national archery tournament.
Those berths were earned last weekend at a state competition at Rochester.
That’s where Ely’s Hayden Weidemann took fifth with a 281 in the middle school division, while Payson Kundinger was 10th among middle school girls with a 269.
They subsequently earned berths in the National 3D Tournament set for May 9-11 in Kentucky.
But for Ely, the celebration doesn’t stop there. Both the elementary and our middle school teams have also qualified to participate at the National 3D tournament and will begin preparations.
At state, Ely took part in an event that featured archers from 73 schools with over 1,900 registered participants.
A stomach bug swept through the team, reducing a 27-participant group down to 21.
