Alex Hebl with Tank and Shadow: “I’m just pet sitting. Dog walking. Running around enjoying the sun. I live in Babbitt. I pet sit so I stay in Ely and Babbitt full time dog sitting and miscellaneous. For fun I walk dogs. It’s fun but it’s my job too. I have to go see about a parrot after this. Take care of her cage and check in for the day.”
Kristi and Tim Johnson: Kristi: “Our kids are in sports so we are walking around town because it’s a beautiful day. The kids are in softball.” Tim: “We’ve lived here about 10 or 11 years.” Kristi: “We like the small community.” Tim: “Yes. Small town is nice. Feels good.” Kristi: “We came from Hinckley Finlayson (Minnesota) area.” Tim: “After we pick the kids up we will probably go home and have supper and do homework. It’s a long day for the kids. This is actually the second time you’ve gotten our picture. You had us once before in the summer time playing outside with the kids. I don’t remember what year it was but it was probably eight or nine years ago.” Kristi: “The kids were two and three.” Tim: “Now they are 13 and 14.” (It’s time to see you again then. Follow up. That’s life.)
Tara Forsman and Shelby and Ryn Forsman and their dog Ziggy: Tara: “Just out for a walk, enjoying the day. I work at the Ely Pebble Spa. I help run one of the high school homeschool coops. I’m still homeschooling my youngest. She’s 14. Her name is Addison Forsman. She runs track and has done different sports. On Wednesdays we usually go to the GEL and go swimming since it’s my day off. So we are going to take this little one to go swimming. And then I don’ know.” Shelby: “I’m just a girl living in Ely. I wasn’t born here. I just moved when we moved. I only moved back recently from the Cities like two months ago.” Tara: “Me too. My husband Mike is from here. We wanted to be near family and we wanted raise our kids the rest of the time near family.” Shelby: “I don’t want to be here but I’m here right now because of family.” (I like your honesty.) “Just chapters of life. I’m doing the same thing today as her. Probably go swimming. Cook dinner...”
Nora DuBois: “I just got back from work. I work for the Voyageur Outward Bound School. I am the winter program director. Even though we haven’t had much of a winter. Today I spent some time in our dog yard out at the base. I met with some staff because they are finishing up their seasons and heading out and talking about what the next season might be like and going from there. I work supporting the summer program as well. I will do some course directing and maybe some instructing. And I will be in charge of the dog yard and building our winter program board and staffing. Busy summer. Hollywood and Chase are my personal dogs. I moved here in 2016 to work for the Voyager Outward Bound School. I’ve been there and then I also worked at Wintergreen Northernwear sewing for a year. And then I ended up going back to Outward Bound this winter. I am originally from northern New Hampshire. I came to work at the Outward Bound School. I had gotten a college degree in adventure education. I have always loved working outdoors and saw the job at Outward Bound and thought it seemed like a good fit and it was and it has been. I took some time off to try some other things and now I am back. The rest of the day I have a doctor’s appointment and then cook some dinner and try to get some of the last sun and warmth. Last year you got a picture of me and my boyfriend with our dog Hollywood over by the apartment we were rent on South Central.” (Oh yes! You were looking for a place to live!) “Yes! And we found one. Full circle.”
