Two Ely skaters make All-IRC

Seniors Drew Marolt and Deegan Richards capped their prep hockey careers by being named to all-conference teams in a pair of leagues.

Both Timberwolves are part of the All-Iron Range Conference hockey team, a 14-member group selected by league coaches.

Earlier this month, both also gained all-conference acclaim in the Two Rivers Conference, with Marolt winning league MVP honors.

The Ely senior duo racked up points in bunches this season, helping Ely to a 14-12 record and a berth in the Section 7A quarterfinals.

Marolt amassed 41 points while scoring a team-high 27 goals, and during his senior season he also passed the 100-point mark for his career.

Richards was second on the team in total points with 34, notching 16 goals as well as 18 assists.

Two other Wolves received honorable mention to the All-IRC team.

They were junior goalie Ben Leeson and sophomore defenseman Jayden Zemke.

Leeson won all 14 games between the pipes while giving up 3.45 goals per game and finishing with a .901 save percentage.

Zemke moved into the varsity lineup and scored six goals with five assists.

League champion Rock Ridge placed four members on the All-IRC team, including seniors Sam Troutwine, Ryan Rothfork and Kasey Lamppa, and sophomore Caz Carlson.

Also named were Greenway seniors Derek Gibeau, Thomas Vekich and Caiden Carpenter, North Shore seniors Zach Benlter and Jake Stadler, North Shore junior Ayden Althaus, International Falls senior Noah Shikowsky and International Falls junior Cooper Crandall.
