Cindy Smyka of Ely won the 2024 Explore Minnesota Emerging Leader award which recognizes the top individual in the state who exhibits a passion for Minnesota’s tourism and hospitality industry, is mindful of their role in making the state a welcoming place for all travelers, and through their work ensures the future growth and vitality of Minnesota tourism.
Smyka’s team and board of directors nominated her, with her win announced at the Explore Minnesota Tourism Conference in Rochester, MN on Feb. 28. Competition for the Emerging Leader Award was steep, with eight nominees in the category.

She is not afraid of big ideas and doesn’t shy away from doing something simply because it has never been done. She is a breaker of new ground, exceptionally professional, and dedicated. She knows exactly how to put the right people in place, and strategically network and align to keep us moving forward toward our goals.”
