Ely house fire victim identified

A woman who died in a fire that consumed an Ely home has been identified.

Social media posts identified the victim as Diane Larson, 64, of Ely.

Larson and two dogs perished in a fire that took place the evening of April 1 at 254 North Fifth Avenue East, a two-story dwelling.

The Ely Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a structure fire just after 11 p.m. and firefighters soon located a female occupant inside.

The woman since identified as Larson, was taken by ambulance to Ely-Bloomenson Community Hospital and later pronounced dead.

No adjacent exposures or other structures were impacted by the fire.

Agencies assisting Ely Fire in this incident include Ely Police, Ely Area Ambulance Service, Babbitt Fire, Morse-Fall Lake Fire, and the St. Louis County Sheriff.

No injuries to members of responding agencies were reported.

This incident is being investigated by Ely Fire, Ely Police, and the State of Minnesota Fire Marshal’s office.
