There will be a Section 30 Reunion meeting on Monday, April 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the Grand Ely Lodge. This meeting is to discuss planning for a reunion in September.

At the Ely Public Library from April 7-11 it will be

National Library Week. There are activities all week plus fine forgiveness on overdue items that are returned during the week and book bracket voting for your favorite book to find out Ely’s favorite read. On Monday at 3 p.m. there will be a jigsaw puzzle contest, register with a team of up to four people to see if you can put your puzzle together the fastest. On Tuesday it will be Friends of the Library Day. On Wednesday there will be a craft stick bookmark station. On Thursday there will be a library trivia challenge and on Friday there will be an in the library scavenger hunt.

The next Ely for Ely gathering will take place on Tuesday, April 8 at 7:30-8:45 a.m. at Ely City Hall in the council chambers. City clerk Harold Langowski will share insights on how to interact with and navigate city government, committees and commissions. This program is open to all and free to attend.

“Living With Cancer Group” gathering on Wednesday, April 9, at the Ely Senior Center at 6 p.m. All cancer patients, survivors, family, friends are invited to attend. Questions call Shirley at 218 235-1987 or Mary Ann at 218 742-7488. All are welcome to attend this informative meeting.

Join the Ely Finnish Kaleva group as they host Hanna Erpestad, retired dean of liberal arts and sciences at Lake Superior College who will present a program on Finnish names: first and last names, pet names, place names, the Finnish name day calendar and traditions. The presentation will take place on Tuesday, April 15 beginning at 1 p.m. at the Ely Senior Center. Coffee and treats will be served. Anyone interested is welcome to attend. Erpestad is a native of Finland and returns frequently to visit with family and friends. She is active in many Finnish-American cultural events and has been a frequent speaker at FinnFest. The Ely Chapter of Braver Angels will hold a gathering on Tuesday, April 15 and the topic will be immigration. That meeting will be at VCC room CC109.
