Northern Progressives next local meeting on April 2, at 6:30 p.m. at the Ely Area Community Hub, 760 Miners Dr. East The main topic will be how to involve young people in community building and public action.
At the Ely Public Library on Thursday, April 3 at 3 p.m. the program will be Hey, It’s a Holiday: World Party Day. It’s time to get your party on with Jessie because it’s World Party Day. Find out more about this fun holiday and how you can celebrate it. This program is sponsored by Friends of the Library.
There will be an interagency open house on Thursday, April 3 from 4-6 p.m. at MN North Vermilion Campus. Agencies/organizations represented will include: U.S. Forest Service, MN Department of Natural Resources, Soil & Water Conservation Districts, Firewise and the NOAA National Weather Service. Resources available include the Fernberg Project status and maps, sign up for pile burning “learn and burns,” burn permit information, landowner cost share programs, Firewise resources and conversations with Forest Supervisor Tom Hall and Kawishiwi District Ranger Aaron Kania.
The next Ely for Ely gathering will take place on Tuesday, April 8 at 7:30 a.m. at Ely City Hall in the council chambers. City clerk Harold Langowski will share insights on how to interact with and navigate city government, committees and commissions. This program is open to all and free to attend.
Join the Ely Finnish Kaleva group as they host Hanna Erpestad, retired dean of liberal arts and sciences at Lake Superior College who will present a program on Finnish names: first and last names, pet names, place names, the Finnish name day calendar and traditions. The presentation will take place on Tuesday, April 15 beginning at 1 p.m. at the Ely Senior Center. Coffee and treats will be served. Anyone interested is welcome to attend. Erpestad is a native of Finland and returns frequently to visit with family and friends. She is active in many Finnish-American cultural events and has been a frequent speaker at FinnFest. The St. Louis County Board of Commissioners will meet at 10 a.m., on Tuesday, April 22, at the Winton Community Center. The public comment period commences at 9:30 a.m.
Ely Memorial High School Spring Fling ( Post Prom) for grades 7-9 will be Saturday, April 26. The Junior/Senior Prom will be Saturday, May 3.
