All-division honors for VCC’s Cahee

Vermilion’s Tamia Cahee made quite an impression in her first year of college basketball.

The freshman from Lafayette, LA not only helped the community college women’s basketball team to a playoff berth, but landed a spot on the All-Northern Division Team as picked by league coaches.

Cahee, a 5-10 forward, received first-team recognition. The honors came in the aftermath of a memorable season for Cahee, who was part of Vermilion’s “Iron Five,” who completed the entire Northern Division season with only five available players.

Cahee averaged a team best 18.9 points per game for the Ironhawks, who placed fourth in the division.

She also led the team by averaging 8.4 rebounds and 3.1 assists and 2.1 steals per game, and shot at a 35 percent clip from the floor.

Cahee was also one of 10 players selected from the entire Minnesota College Athletic Conference for the All-Region 13 Team.

Vermilion freshman Angie Schuchardt also made the division’s All-Defensive Team.

The Houston native scored six points and secured four rebounds per game, and also received honorable mention to the all-division team.

Freshman guard Amiya Yunker, who hails from Bradenton, FL, scored 10 points per game for the Ironhawks and was another honorable mention All-Northern Division selection.
