History Happy Hour delves into the rich history of the Ely, Minnesota area with pint-sized stories that are informative and entertaining in less than a half an hour. The March 19 theme highlights Women’s History Month with the various women who helped make Ely area towns thriving communities. Join host, Jess Edberg, executive director of the Dorothy Molter Museum, as she scratches the surface of a local history topic, inspiring listeners to take a deeper dive on their own. This program is offered as a free, in-person, 30-minute or less presentation October through May, typically on the third Wednesday of the month at 5 p.m. at the Boathouse Brewpub & Restaurant in Ely. History Happy Hour is supported in-kind by the Boathouse Brewpub, Ely’s Heritage Preservation Commission, the Dorothy Molter Museum, Boundary Waters Connect and the Ely Folk School.

On Thursday, March 20 at 6 p.m. at the Senior Center, the Ely Braver Angels Alliance will gather to discuss the topic of DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency), the agency created by President Trump with the purpose of streamlining government and eliminating waste.

The March meeting of Ely P.E.O. Chapter FD will be held on Thursday, March 20, at Grace Lutheran Church. A Potluck Luncheon will start at 12:30 p.m. with a business meeting to follow. Visiting members are welcome. Please call program chair, Katie Kopp-Nelson, 952-250-7599 with any questions.

ECR Art Auction will be held on March 22. This year’s theme is “A Celebration of Artful Living in Ely.” Support programming for local kids by bidding on art from local artists. There will be a live auction, silent auction, and raffle. Catered food provided. Tickets are $10. Viewing/appetizers at 5 p.m. and the auction begins at 6 p.m.

At the Ely Public Library on Saturday, March 22 from 1:30-4 p.m. there will be a Death at the Circus Murder Mystery Event for adults and high school students grades 9-12. Registration will be required.

Ely Memorial High School Spring Fling ( Post Prom) for grades 7-9 will be Saturday, April 26. The Junior/Senior Prom will be Saturday, May 3.
