A former Ely resident has been charged with a felony relating to an incident here last weekend.
Carter John Manning, age 30, currently resides in Babbitt. On February. 28 he was involved in an incident at Grand Ely Lodge.
According to the police complaint, Ely police responded to a report of an intoxicated male with a handgun who was making threats.
Upon arrival officers found Manning in the pool area “holding himself upright by leaning on the wall.”
Officer Bradley Roy spoke with staff who had asked Manning to leave. Roy was approached by an adult female who reported “at one point while people were trying to get Manning to leave he came over to her, with his hand in the shape of a gun, he put the ‘barrel’ against her head and asked her, ‘Do you want to know what a 9mm feels like straight to the face.’” Roy reported the adult female was visibly frightened while telling this to him.
Manning was charged with threats of violence reckless disregard for risk, a felony with a maximum sentence of five years imprisonment or a $10,000 fine. Manning was booked at the county jail and later released on bail.
