Northeast Range students hands-on in STEM class

Northeast Range students hands-on in STEM class

Since Christmas break, students at Northeast Range are growing and learning in STEM class. Students in fourth-sixth grade had a lesson in Consumer Science comparing paper towels and microwave popcorn. They learned the difference in prices and quality versus marketing strategies of how companies want their message portrayed trying to make customers buy their products. Did you know that Bounty paper towels are about the same as generic paper towels when it comes to be the “quicker picker upper?” The generic brand of microwave popcorn tastes just as good as Pop Secret but the box is not as vibrant and exciting. K-2 took advantage of winter and followed a recipe to make frozen bubble mix. They tested them outside watching their bubbles freeze and see their creations become solid. This was also a great opportunity to learn about the water cycle. Students have also planted lettuce seeds in rock wool and will be using hydroponic towers as well. Second-fourth grade are experimenting with seed germination of many different vegetable seeds, planted potatoes in a bucket and planted broccoli, cauliflower and green pepper seeds.
