Council breezes through light agenda

The Babbitt city council met less than half an hour on Tuesday evening for a special meeting, short one member, Jim Lassi.

The council gave initial approval to sell a piece of land to Mark and Dianna Ellerbroek.

Mayor Andrea Zupancich had to step down since she was representing the buyer as part of her real estate business.

Duane Lossing stepped in as Zupancich pitched selling a portion of a lot on Mulberry Lane for $3,288.60.

Zupancich said the lot is adjacent to Ellerbroek and they are looking to buy a 30x126 foot section. Zupancich said the lots on Mulberry are double lots and are about one-half acre in size.

Lossing asked how much would be left in lot 102 once the 30-foot section is sold.

Ellerbroek said each lot is 146 feet wide.

“So there’s still going to be a really good-sized buildable lot that’s left there,” said Lossing. “And then another lot before you get to Chris Lossing’s.”

Ellerbroek said they are looking to have better access to their property.

“We can legally drive around to the back and have access. I’ve got a big camper there, but I can access the back by doing that, but then every time I got a hook up a 42-foot camper pull it out to get in and out,” said Ellerbroek.

The council approved selling the 30x126 foot portion of lot 102 for $3,288.60.

With that done the council also changed the price of the remaining lot from $16,000 to $15,000.

Zupancich did clarify she is not getting paid from either side in the sale.

The council also approved changes to the solid waste collection (garbage) ordinance after concerns had been raised about how long garbage cans were left out.

The changes would allow up to a 96-gallon garbage container and residents would have a changed timeline for putting their containers on the curb.

The change would provide for garbage cans out no earlier than 6 p.m. and not later than 7 a.m. on the day of collection. Containers would need to be removed by 8 a.m. the next day.
