Laurie Kantonen, Conference Superintendent of the Aurora Sky District of the United Methodist Church, Minnesota Annual Conference, has announced that it is the intention of Bishop Lanette Plambeck to appoint the Reverend Kay Carter as minister of the Ely United Methodist Church.
Acting on behalf of the congregation, the Pastor Parish Relations Committee has confirmed the Bishop’s intentions.
There will be a service celebrating the appointment on Sunday, Jan. 26. A reception will be held in honor of Carter following the 10 a.m. service from 11:30 a.m. -1 p.m. in the lower level of the church at 305 E. Camp Street. Visitors are welcome to attend.
Carter is coming from Woodland United Methodist Church, Windsor, VA. Her appointments started in the mid-1990s and include a number of United Methodist Churches in California and Virginia. She received a B.A. in International Studies-National Security Issues from John Hopkins University and earned a Master of Divinity from Claremont School of Theology.
She has continued her education and training with courses in family systems theory, critical incident stress management, strengthbased leadership and Messy Church. Her community involvement and service include; William & Mary Welsey Board of Directors, Master Naturalist Program and “lots of knitting groups.”
Both her parents were career military officers stationed from Alaska to Norway. Frequent moves were common while growing up. She attended a variety of churches in her early years and developed an appreciation for the diversity of Christian and spiritual beliefs.
