The Ely Timberwolves got right back on the winning track.
After a long win streak ended at the hands of Duluth Marshall, a state-ranked Class AA team, the high school girls basketball team rebounded with a win over another Class AA foe - International Falls.
Ely completed a regular- season sweep of the Broncos, riding a balanced-scoring attack to a 65-45 home victory on Jan. 17.
The Wolves were never really able to put the visitors away in the home clash, but International Falls never mounted what appeared to be a serious threat.
Ely, now 11-4, pushed out to a nine-point lead by halftime and extended it to double digits in the second.
While the Wolves struggled from long-range, hitting only four-of-20 from threepoint distance, they were an efficient 20-for-38 (53 percent) from inside the arc.
Senior Clare Thomas was the Wolves’ top scorer, finishing with a team-high 16 points to go with seven rebounds and three assists.
Sophomore Lydia Shultz was next with 15 points, including a pair of three-point baskets, while sophomore Audrey Kallberg chipped in with 13 points.
Notching a double-double was sophomore Amelia Penke, who finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Zoe MacKenzie, a junior, had seven points, seven rebounds and four steals.
• Monday’s game at Bigfork was postponed because of bitterly cold weather conditions. The game was made up Thursday after deadline.
Ely is at Floodwood Jan. 30 with a showdown with section and state powerhouse Mt. Iron-Buhl to follow at home on Feb. 3.
