Hauschild will be on four committees

State Senator Grant Hauschild (DFL-Hermantown) announced his committee assignments for the 2025 legislative session. Hauschild will serve on the Tax Committee, Environment, Climate and Legacy Committee, Education Policy Committee, and Labor Committee.

Hauschild said these roles allow him to be in a position to advocate for the unique needs of Northern Minnesota’s communities and ensure that the voices of the region are well-represented in state policy decisions.

“I am honored to take on these critical assignments and represent Northern Minnesota on issues that deeply impact our region,” said Hauschild. “Each of these committees plays a vital role in shaping the future of our state, and I am committed to ensuring that the concerns of Northern Minnesotans are front and center in the legislative process.”

As the only senator in the Iron Range Delegation serving on the Tax Committee, Hauschild said he will have a unique and pivotal role in overseeing mining taxation and the distribution of revenue derived from mining.

“The Tax Committee’s jurisdiction over mining taxation is critical for ensuring that the benefits of this vital industry continue to support our region,” said Hauschild. “I’ll work tirelessly to protect our mining proceeds from going to neighboring regions as proposed in the State Senate” In addition, Hauschild’s role on the Environment, Climate and Legacy Committee underscores his commitment to protecting Northern Minnesota’s natural resources and outdoor heritage. As a member of the Environment Committee, Hauschild said he will “fight for the forestry and mining industries while protecting our state and national parks. These treasures are not only integral to the region’s identity but also to its economy and quality of life.”

Serving on the Education Policy Committee, Hauschild will focus on addressing the challenges facing rural schools and ensuring that all students in Northern Minnesota have access to high-quality education.

“Investing in education is investing in the future of our region,” he stated. “I’ll work to secure the resources and support our rural schools need to thrive.”

Finally, as a member of the Labor Committee, Hauschild said he will continue to champion the rights of working families.

“Strengthening our workforce, championing job creating industries, and standing up for workers’ rights are top priorities for me,” he said.
