Unlike a year ago, when Christmas Eve came with pouring rain, Ely is certain to have a White Christmas.
That’s not only good for photos and holiday festivities, not to mention holiday atmosphere, but also for Ely as a whole.
There are more than a few people who depend on snow, and activities associated with it, for their livelihood.
Whether it’s dog sledding or snowmobiling, skiing or ice fishing, snow brings visitors to Ely and it’s a boon to our area’s struggling economy.
A White Christmas and good snow and ice in the coming months is a welcome relief, not only for the activities already mentioned but for those still to come - such as the Fun Run, the Ely Winter Festival and the WolfTrack Classic.
Those events are set for the next several weeks and their success is a benefit to the entire area. Ample snow is the first ingredient toward a healthy season of Ely area winter activities and events.
With the arrival of winter, one Christmas wish for the Ely area has already been granted and we hope all of our readers - whether you are a permanent resident, in town for holidays, or a reader away from the area - have a wonderful holiday season.
It’s a season of giving and of hope, and a time to hopefully put politics and differences aside - at least for a while.
We hope we all can take time away from the hustle and bustle and have the opportunity to relax, recharge and spend time with family, friends and loved ones in the coming days and weeks.
To all, have a Merry Christmas and a happy 2025!
