Senator Grant Hauschild (DFL-Hermantown) has been elected assistant majority leader of the Minnesota State Senate.
Chosen by his colleagues in the DFL Senate Caucus, Hauschild joins State Senator Bonnie Westlin (DFL–Plymouth) as one of two new assistant leaders.
“I am deeply honored by the trust my colleagues have placed in me to serve as assistant majority leader,” said Hauschild. “This role is an opportunity to ensure that the voices and values of Northern and Greater Minnesota continue to have a strong presence in the Senate’s leadership. For generations, our region has produced influential legislative leaders who have fought tirelessly for our communities. I am committed to continuing that legacy by advancing common-sense policies that make a real difference in people’s lives.”
Hauschild emphasized the importance of this leadership position, particularly in a politically balanced legislature.
“With the State House tied and the Senate holding a one-seat majority, collaboration and thoughtful leadership are more critical than ever. I look forward to working with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to deliver significant victories for northern Minnesota and the entire state.”
Elected in November 2022, Hauschild has quickly distinguished himself as an effective and respected legislator.
In addition to his new leadership role, he continues to serve on the Senate Tax Committee, as well as the Environment, Climate, and Legacy Committee, the Education Policy Committee, and as vice-chair of the Labor Committee. Beyond these assignments, he is actively involved in several bipartisan groups, including:
• The EMS Taskforce, addressing critical rural ambulance service shortages.
• The Legislative Permanent School Fund Commission, ensuring sustainable funding for Minnesota schools.
• The Explore Minnesota Tourism Council, promoting economic growth through tourism.
• The Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board (IRRRB), fostering development in Northern Minnesota.
As assistant majority leader, Hauschild said he plans to continue advocating for policies that reflect the unique needs and values of Northern and rural Minnesotans while contributing to statewide progress.
