While the high school volleyball season is over, two Ely Timberwolves and one Northeast Range Nighthawk will suit up one more time this fall.
Senior Lili Rechichi and sophomore Audrey Kallberg, two of the leading hitters on Ely’s state tournament team, will be joined by Northeast Range senior Maizy Sundblad in a contest that brings together the top high school volleyball players in northeastern Minnesota.
They will be part of the 12th annual “Battle of the Big Dogs,” all-star game, slated for Sunday at Mesabi East High School in Aurora.
The game, which features top-rated players from the Iron Range against a team of standouts from the Duluth area, is set for 4 p.m.
Rechichi and Kallberg dominated at the net all season for the Wolves, leading a squad that repeated as Section 7A, Iron Range Conference and Arrowhead Conference champions and won 28 games.
They will both be part of the Iron Range team with players from Greenway, Grand Rapids and North Woods.
Neighboring Northeast Range will also send a player- senior setter Maizy Sundblad.
Sundblad was one of the top setters in the area and this week signed to continue her volleyball career in college at North Central University of Minneapolis.
They’ll tangle with a Duluth area team comprised of players from Hermantown, Esko, Proctor, Floodwood and Duluth East.
