Ely athletes rack up All-IRC honors

On the heels of recent performances at conference meets, numerous Ely athletes have received All-Iron Range Conference recognition in three different sports.

One girls swim team member, four members of the girls cross country team and six boys cross country runners have been named All-IRC.

The lone girls swimming representative is senior Anna Larson, who won all-conference recognition in both the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly events.

At the conference meet in International Falls, Larson won the butterfly event and was second in the freestyle.

In girls cross country, sophomore Molly Brophy leads the way among four Timberwolves.

Brophy took second at the IRC meet held at Hoyt Lakes earlier in the month and repeated as an All-IRC selection.

Also making it were three others from the Ely girls team:

• Mattie Lindsay;

• Isabella Macho;

• Elsa Ellerbroek. The Ely boys cross country team was also well represented with IRC champion and senior Caid Chittum heading the list of Timberwolves on the squad.

Chittum finished first in the boys individual standings and claimed both the IRC title and all-conference recognition, while teammate Silas Solum placed seventh overall and also earned All-IRC honors.

Other Ely runners to be named were:

• Otto Devine;

• Brooks Brenny;

• Mason Kurnava;

• Eli Olson. Both the Ely boys and girls cross country teams took part in Section 7A competition Thursday at Coleraine in an event that was completed after deadline.

Larson and the rest of the NRE girls swimming team are getting ready for section competition in early-November.
