Babbitt garage, contents are totaled by fire

Babbitt, Ely and Embarrass firefighters were dispatched the evening of Aug. 29 to a garage fire in Babbitt, according to the Friends of the Northland FireWire.

Babbitt crews were quickly on the scene and contained the fire to the interior of the garage. A riding lawnmower, an ATV, the contents, and the garage are considered a total loss.

A vehicle parked near the structure was undamaged. The fire was reported around 6:10 p.m. on Basswood Circle. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but is believed to have started from the riding lawnmower which was just parked inside the garage.

The Ely and Embarrass departments were canceled and the Babbitt Ambulance Service provided medical standby at the scene.
