Ya gotta wait for it...

Trout Whisperer -

He never purchased a Grumman goose, ached to, just never got the chance, he did over the years acquire three DeHavilland Beavers, never owning more than one at a time.

I never saw the first one, one now he says he wished he’d never sold. I saw the second, never flew in it, so the third which I have flown in, is of course my favorite.

When he starts it, the first thing I hear is a whirling sound, like metal coiling wire parts that need a serious oiling. Then it starts to hic-up, snort, cough cough, cough, puffs of smoke, lots more coughs in highly anticipated feelings of come on now, throw over. And right there is the part about flying in it that always makes me nervous. The one engine, rough to start, the what ifs in my head, but then somehow, in sound, it’s now like a classic farm tractor, at least to me, it’s like I can hear the cylinders chugging up and down, if I close my eyes, I don’t know if I could tell them apart.

He doesn’t like it when I mention that, not sure why.

He putters away on floats, points it in the wind, again some magic, that coughing complaining motor, now idling up, is as smooth sounding as a blender, soft, perfect humming rhythm, then right there, it lets me know, that’s one solid aircraft.
