Hundreds of students have been helped by the Vermilion College Foundation through its history.
And as a new school year begins, the foundation’s efforts continue and even broaden.
An annual impact report released this month by the foundation, which has been in existence since 1979, shows how it has administered scholarship and other funds to benefit the Vermilion campus of Minnesota North College and its students.
During the 2023-24 school year, the foundation distributed $150,000 to Vermilion students and local community projects - via the generosity of its donors.
The vast majority of those dollars went to Vermilion students by way of scholarships, and the foundation brought back its annual scholarship dinner last fall, when about 85 people turned out to honor and c elebr a t e t he scholarship recipients.
The Vermilion Foundation invests and manages both one-time donations and long-term memorials and distributes dozens of scholarships to Vermilion students The foundation also is trying to expand its reach - hosting a winter staff and faculty party and creating a whole new line of alumni apparel and items.
Other housekeeping
measures included updates of its internal systems and processes, a new scholarship software system and an updated legal memorandum process.
The foundation is also looking to the future to implement new ideas, while a brand-new fundraiser - the Vermilion Foundation Pickleball Tournament - took place in July.
Other goals include:
• Growing the alumni data base so that all Vermilion alumni have a positive contact point;
• Continuing to increase scholarships for Vermilion students;
• Maintaining a strong community presence;
• Increasing communication to Vermilion Foundation supporters.
