A vendor rolling into town for the Blueberry/ Art Festival received a dose of Ely Nice when the trailer he was pulling broke down miles from his destination.
Steve and Shawna Speltz of Stillwater said they wanted to give a “huge shout out” to the people who stepped in to help them.
On their way to Snowbank Lake, the lug bolts sheared off and they were broken down on the side of the road by Winton.
Steve said someone from Mather Recycling and Towing saw them on the way to another call and asked if they needed help. Mather reported it was his employee Justin Nyman who alerted him of the call and would stay late that day to fix the broken parts.
“Most towing companies would just tow but they put it up on the lift and got it fixed,” said Steve Speltz. “Are you kidding me?”
But Ely Nice extended beyond to fellow vendor “Jim the Carver” who happened to be driving past and volunteered to haul the camper to Snowbank Lodge where the owner loaned Steve and Shawna his personal truck to get to town.
At the Ely Senior Center on Saturday morning Steve Speltz was a happy camper and very thankful for the help he received on his trip to Ely. We share that sentiment.
To take the time to help another in need is one of the greatest gifts we can give to someone. And when you don’t even know them, the gift is even better.
While too many national politicians drive a wedge of partisan division in our country from both sides of the aisle, it’s heartwarming to hear of good people right here in our community going out of their way to follow the Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
