The Ely Police Department reported Thursday that a child had been hit by a truck at the intersection of Sheridan Street and Central Avenue at 8:15 a.m.

The accident occurred as the truck was traveling west on Sheridan Street and turned south onto Central Avenue.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the child, Madoc Milton Kannas, age 8 of Ely, was taken by ambulance to Ely Bloomenson Community Hospital.

According to the EPD, the driver of a Ram pickup, Gordon William Chinander, 61 of Ely, was making a left turn onto Central Avenue from Sheridan Street and hit the child who was crossing Central Avenue within the crosswalk.  The boy was dragged by the vehicle an estimated 25 to 30 feet from the crosswalk.
